Resilience

I lost it all in one cruel blow
My love, my home, my life
I had nowhere to go, no one to know
I was drowning in pain and strife

I cried and cried until I was dry
I felt nothing but despair
I gave up on hope, on faith, on joy
I had nothing left to care

But then I saw your face, my son
Your eyes so full of fear
You were my only one, my sun
You were the reason I was here

I realized I still had something
I still had you, and you had me
We still had each other, we still had love
And that was enough to see

I wiped my eyes and rose to fight
I decided to live, to be strong
I prayed for courage, for grace, for light
And then I took action, I moved on

I sold what I could to feed you, to heal you
I searched for any work, any chance
I begged and borrowed from anyone, anything
I pleaded for mercy, for tolerance

I faced many trials and failures
But I did not give up, I did not quit
I kept trying and trying, until I succeeded
And then I thanked God, and hugged you tight

I knew our life was not easy
But I also knew we could face any test
I trusted in myself, in God, in you
And I loved you more than the rest

And we made it, we survived
The storm passed, and the sun shone
We moved to a new place, a better place
We had our own space, our own home

We also found new people, new family
They cared for us, they loved us
I met a new man, a good man
He loved me, he loved you

We never forgot our past, but we also never let it stop us
We learned from our struggles, and grew from them
We appreciated our present, and looked forward to our future
We were resilient, and we were happy
