Are hugs and kisses everything in a relationship? In today’s world we see that modern relationships are becoming more external oriented. People mindlessly engage in right swiping on various online dating applications. This shows how desperate we are to get a romantic partner. However, this desperation does not necessarily imply that we are ready to make the sacrifices that are needed for a long lasting relationship.
‘Happily ever after’ is only possible in fairy tales. In movies and stories we are shown that when we get married or get into a positive “green flag” relationship then we can live happily together forever. But this is not right at all. LIfe is full of so many challenges and problems. In relationships too, we will have to face many problems but true love is understanding the situation and making the right sacrifices and compromises to keep the relationship alive.
In the Ramayana, we see two examples of great sacrifices made for love. Firstly, we see mother Sita gave up her luxurious life to accompany Lord Rama. She left the royal palace and readily went to live a life of deprivation in the forest. Secondly, Sita’s sister Urmila presented a commendable mood of sacrifice. She was the wife of Lakshman. She stayed back at the palace instead of going with her husband. She let his husband go and serve the people he loved.
Here, we saw two women sacrificing for their love in completely different ways. This is maturity. Maturity is to understand how to sacrifice and where to sacrifice. We all face different situations in our life so the kind of sacrifices we would need to make are also going to be different. We must be ready to make any sacrifice at any moment to save our relationship. So, this Valentine's day, let us all master the art of making sacrifices for our love.
