Zygomaticus major, with conjuction along other 43 muscles, powered by facial nerve, just jointly work their assoff to make a thing in our faces. And it's called SMILE!!
What a beautiful anatomy behind that physical gesture right?!. These are the folks of our body who provide us with the array of smiles. From a sly grin to a full toothy smile that lights up the whole face, there are a million different smile configurations. Even a fake smile or grimace requires work of these muscles. Simple to say, all these 'contraction and relaxation' just for a curve? But! This curve can set everything straight!
Smile is something we are born with even before we step in this world. It has been shown that we do smile when we were in our mother's womb and it's called as 'reflex smile'. It's just a reflex though, not due to any cause, we smile just like that. But science doesn't consider it as a real smile though. A real smile or social smile is expected from the 'baby us' by about 6 to 12 weeks after birth. Scientist consider a real smile only when it is as a response to a cause as 'For every cause there is an effect'.
But the same Science proves that our emotions can be altered by our facial muscles activity. Simply put, our emotions change, ie, we become happy when we work our zygomaticus. Researchers had proven that intentionally exercising our zygomaticus major muscle and orbicularis oculi muscle can actually make us feel better. So what is going on in our brains when we smile? When our brains feel happy, endorphins are produced and neuronal signals are transmitted to your facial muscles to trigger a smile. This is the start of the positive feedback loop of happiness. When our smiling muscles contract, they fire a signal back to the brain, stimulating our reward system, and further increasing our level of happy hormones, or endorphins. In short, when our brain feels happy, we smile; when we smile, our brain feels happier.
So, simply put, Fake it till you make it!
Smile has such value in our life!! An innocent smile from a newborn, trustful smile of sibling, proud smile of parents, joyful smile of friends, shy-side smile from partner, random smile from a stranger, peaceful smile of old people and on and on. Every smile brings warmness to our heart. Just a small smile from our loved ones or a random stranger(at times) can weigh the burden of our shoulders a little less.
In this modern world, we keep chasing to make our life work in anyways we have. The overweight of burdens and responsibilities may have put us down sometimes, but it's okay! Just remember to smile when you forgot how to. Pass your smile when you sense someone who forgot how to. And yes SMILING IS CONTAGIOUS!! Your smile can brighten-up someone's moment and your's too!
So, if you're reading this, just put on a smile as life is liveable! Life is beautiful and sometimes like hell, and sometimes a bit of both, still liveable, so Smile a little more!!
Indeed, this simple curve can make everything straight!.
